Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?English
12·2 years agoNOTHING in the history of humankind has ever existed like computer data. A 100% identical copy of videos, pictures, and music can be made almost instantly at what is essentially zero cost to the original holder of the data. Any comparison to “stealing” or to a physical object (a car lol) just falls flat because the situation is just so different.
old uk piracy ads used the line “Piracy is theft!”
the funny thing is that it wasn’t actually legally theft
theft required (and still does i think) depriving the rightful owner of the goods themselves

22·2 years agoit’s not part of the paradox, but there are also days when people tend to have more sex
like new years, valentines, christmas etc. (in the west at least)
so you tend to get more people born 9 months after those days

6·2 years agoi used mint for a few years, it’s pretty good and if something works on ubuntu 99% of the time it works on mint too which is handy for tech support
i used manjaro for 3 days before i switched to endeavourOS (another arch based distro) after very strong recommendations to ditch it from a very large number of people lol
