You misunderstood. They output one single token and then re-ingest the entire input + that extra token to generate the next one. For token 3 that’s the entire input + token 1 and token 2

There’s no pattern matching though. It takes a input set of tokens and generates a single output token. It adds that output token to the input set and ingests that set to output a single token, which it does the same with until you have your final output. That’s what LLMs do. That’s all they do

Frankly I expect the kernel dudes to be pretty good about this, their style guides alone are quite strick and any funny business in a PR that isn’t marked correctly is I think likely a ban from making PRs at all. How it worked beforehand, as already stated by others is the author says “I promise this follows the rules” and that’s basically the end of it. Giving an official avenue for generated code is a great way to reduce the negatives of it that’ll happen anyway. We know this from decades of real life experience trying to ban things like alcohol or drugs, time after time providing a legal avenue with some rules makes things safer. Why wouldn’t we see a similar effect here?
That’s their problem. If they are using an LLM and cannot verify the output they shouldn’t be using an LLM

Technology probably doesn’t make things better but it was failing me in elementary school when the best of the best was the massive brick of a computer Macs in the computer lab was all we had
I mean it varies. It’s fun to just goof off in games sometimes. That’s why sandbox games like Minecraft typically have creative modes, sometimes you just wanna play in the sandbox and have a good time without the more typical game parts tying you down

I’ve been told that it’s mostly automated. IE the Point Of Sale tells the system what items were sold and it subtracts from whatever total it has. The produce guys have said that because of this system some things like bananas are almost always screwed up, cause the barcode and the PLU (the numbers) aren’t actually the same item. Namely sometimes when the banana suppler changes they don’t get automatically ordered cause the system thinks we’re selling the old ones which “don’t exist anymore”. I’d expect similar things happen to grocery and home but to a much less extent, probably from people just tossing stuff out instead of scanning it out and then still just tossing it. Yay food waste.
