No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do middle aged family men handle it?
10·2 months agoI agree (and the downvote wasn’t me), this is coming from a privileged position. My thoughts on downsizing and No, thank you still apply though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do middle aged family men handle it?
392·2 months agoNot sure if this is good advice. By joining the gamble, you’re (micro-)fueling the global suicide machine that’s causing all this stress. Someone has to earn the money you make from it, and it’s usually either by destruction, exploitation or scamming.
I try to break free from all the stuff by downsizing. Second hand clothes, Repair Café, holidays at youth hostels like 40 km from my home, meeting/making local friends and very important: Raising your kids to not be spoiled, entitled, materialistic cunts.
I call it the power of No, thank you. It’s so calming to lower you expectations, switch to a lower gear and find happiness in baking a cake with apples from the neighborhood, than another, big-ass TV and a crowded flight to Asia once a year.
Having young kids is brutal though. It gets better and you’ll look back at it with mixed feelings of relieve and melancholia.

74·2 months agoYour apathy and mental phlegm makes me furious. We don’t “go extinct”, billions and billions of sentient beings will suffer greatly for centuries to come because of it. More so with every bit of warming we are adding or preventing. It’s far from over, this is barely beginning. So stop this doomer bullshit and take responsibility for your life and your actions.

3·3 months agoYou need to get in touch with your local Repair Café! It’s sounds like you would make a perfect addition. :)

politics @lemmy.world•Republicans mostly silent as millions of Americans protest Trump on No Kings day
193·3 months agoPeople who joined the protest will feel empowered and less isolated. Some got to know likeminded locals and may start to connect or make plans. They look forward to the next protest.

228·3 months agoYou need to let go of the hate, it makes your life miserable. There is nothing for you at the bottom of this, just paranoia and destruction. Go meet some real people in reality, it helps.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•What's your greatest "gaming high" you've been chasing ever since? Please take care not to spoil anything, if you are going to be story-specific.English
2·3 months agoI already played Selaco and liked it very much. It looks phenomenal, all the particles and the mood lights, it’s such a beautiful chaos. Only the enemies are real bullet sponges, that’s not to my taste. I’d rather have shorter combats or more enemies than sinking clip after clip in one simple enemy. But it’s just a personal preference, go play it!

3·3 months agoHey, just in case people don’t know:
There is a very lively community still playing Doom II. There are incredible mods and maps, from minor addons to gamechanging mechanics. I enjoy the Brutal Doom-addon for it’s modern shooter feel and the heavy pixel-gore. But there is loads of other stuff, years of fun!

8·3 months agoWe will not solve it, it’s way too late for that. Still, every 0.01°C additional warming counts. People not born yet will suffer more from everything we don’t do now. So, rolling on our backs and giving up is not helping at all. Going vegan is a easy first step to make a difference. Start blowing up pipelines after that. :)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People whose parents have become fascist, how are you dealing with it?
1·3 months agoNo, I got it from someone quoting it on some talk or podcast. Tried to low-effort-verify it but couldn’t. So I just rolled with it. :)

6·5 months agoKeep being a decent human bean still is the way to go, though. Otherwise it’s a race to the bottom, Marquis de Sade-style. Fuck these psychopaths, you’re better than them!
Wikipedia says it’s written by all four members of the band. And I agree, they’re super mainstream and unremarkable but Viva la Vida is perfect. The lyrics are epic, poetic, wise, sad and true. The instrumental is flawless, simple yet classy with these strings and the choir. The atmosphere is unlike any other song I’ve ever head and it’s breathtaking even after listening for the 100th time. A true masterpiece.
5 is great. Never stop donaldducking.
I just talked to a friend a couple days ago, we’ll take a weekend off, do a hackaton to rebuild our sites in this style. Dithering the images looks really cool, I’d like to do his as well.

I like flac and I understand the human desire to get the best quality of everything. You can’t tell the difference between 25mb flac and 2,5 mb 160 kbps opus though.
