The USA and UK are both Five Eyes members and routinely share intelligence. If the USA had compromised secure apps, wouldn’t the UK be privy to intelligence gathered via that method?

The USA is functionally an oligarchy, not a democracy. The groups with the most money hold untoward amounts of explicit and implicit power. Moneyed business interests own and control entire political parties, media outlets, financial institutions, etc.

It is truly terrifying to comprehend the breadth and depth of the dystopia that has roots in corporate greed. Modern pervasive surveillance technology implemented by the commercial sector worldwide makes real-time identification of dissent trivially easy. Laws may exist on paper to protect and empower citizens, but if corruption overrides accountability to those laws then functionally the government is authoritarian.

The average citizen in any oligarchy has very little influence or power over their government.

You have a point; some EVs like the Leaf don’t even have conditioning. The Volt does have active conditioning, and being a PHEV instead of a BEV has battery charge and discharge limits which were limited by the factory to preserve longevity at the expense of being able to charge to a true 100%. If extra range is needed the ICE is activated instead of stressing the traction battery.

It would be fun to have a Bollywood style flashmob show up at one of these stores.

I kill them with a spray bottle filled with 70% isopropyl alcohol. The mist is difficult to avoid, and once they’re knocked down, I drown them with a few more blasts. I think the surface tension of the alcohol is able to permeate the tiny holes (spiracles) that would normally keep water out of their respiratory system. No guts, just wipe away the fly’s body and any excess alcohol. Anything you miss will simply evaporate. Bonus: 70% isopropyl alcohol is a disinfectant, so you’ve already helped clean any disease the fly may have been carrying.
