The bridges are singular points of failure. If the bridge you use goes down you lose all your audience that was on that bridge. It’s better than nothing however. I will consider normies using threads and Bluesky a win as much as I can but it’d be so more ideal if we just all were on open and truly federated protocols instead of relying on half measures
Not really. You can host your own data but you still rely on Bluesky’s services to access it. And there is no realistic way to migrate your content or audience to another platform outside their control
57 different 3rd party apps is probably a good start. Mastodon has to be easy to on-board and it isn’t for someone with no technical understanding what domains, servers or instances are. To that group Bluesky makes sense. You are signing up for Bluesky. Try to onboard that group to mastodon and they don’t understand if they are on mastodon.social or mastodon.world or any other instance.
Why would they be on one of those fringe services with less users than bluesky? That’s what a non expert understands
Providers have a market incentive to provide the most convenient experience to their patients. The market incentive does not exist for sending information to other providers so they will take the path of least resistance to be compliant with regulation
Lemmy and Mastodon for me. I don’t get a lot of engagement on Mastodon but I never did on twitter either. So Lemmy is probably 90% of my interaction and mastodon is basically an reader for certain hashtags and people on the fedi

I had the original 2019 Motorola razr. I treated it like a precious heirloom. The screen started to have pixels die and the touch digitizer went out after 6 months. Kept it in a case and never dropped it.
I think there are a wide range of outcomes based on the manufacturing process but my experience has soured me on foldables. I’d rather use a mini phone instead. But it seems like the mini phone niche is just as small as the clamshell foldable one so I may have no choice at some point
Is a p2p system for media with the instances just hosting magnet links too slow for fediverse purposes? To me this seems like the most resilient way to handle media in a decentralized system

Probably the best things about android is the ability to use custom ROMs and alternative apps stores such as GrapheneOS and fdroid.
If you are switching to get into the Google ecosystem, I think that is probably a mistake. In my opinion the ecosystem is vastly inferior to their Apple counterparts, and even the parts that are better, such as drive and gsuite, are just as good, if not better supported on iOS.
Whenever I was in android it was because the software was more open or there was some novel hardware that ended up not being as good or apple caught up (such as the galaxy phone being bigger and more capable at the time or the new Moto Razr being a clamshell flip, ended up breaking after 6 months)

M2 air can handle any work load I throw at it. Mine is mostly programming though. For rendering 4k video, you might benefit from a pro. Make sure you get at least 16GB of RAM no matter which one you choose

To me office is the bonus to the cloud storage and syncing. Yeah I know it’s easy to run a NAS but the UX of having to manage it is a headache and quite frankly it gives me more piece of mind to pass the buck of getting pwned to Microsoft or Google

Being here shows that there really is no reason to go back to Reddit for the default subs which are just absolutely useless karma farms. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze for niche subs, I do hope that the fediverse will grow enough to support the niche interests without falling into the enshittification pitfalls of corporate social media

If someone really wants to use the contribution of the expelled maintainers they can just make their own fork. Part of the Free in FOSS is the freedom to associate or not associate with contributors.
The idea would be the servers would have shared ban/block lists and similar rules so that they can share the load of having open sign ups.
Basically a coop of instances to improve on-boarding. If you join the coop then you get added to the pool of instances that get assigned normies at random.
If the authentication was federated it’d be ideal as well but I assume this would be outside the scope of AP and would cause issues if you tried to post from your mastodon.social account from mastodon.world’s server for instance.
