Depends on how far a species advances, I’d guess. It wouldn’t surprise me if advancements set us (and other potential life out there) on a trajectory where it’s possible to just get most nutrition needed via passive intravenous implants, maybe only with a requirement to drink water to maintain fluid balance. Or we just get to the full cyberpunk cyborg option and all you need is an occasional battery recharge or something.

With the resources available today, mankind has the ability to solve world hunger, but that still keeps the dependency we have on various global supply lines for food. Few nations are truly agriculturally independent. Lenin once said that society is no more than three missed meals away from chaos, and I believe the only permanent solution to that issue would be if a society no longer needs to eat.

Agreed, especially on the psyops front. It’s no secret that Russia has been manipulating global politics for a long time now, and France is another European country which has seen a rising Russia-friendly neofascist movement in Rassemblement National. They’ve just barely been kept out of power the past few election, but as their numbers keep growing, one must only wonder how much longer that can be the case.

Similar with Germany and AfD. Europe is being worn down from within and no one seems to be inclined to do anything about it.

Nobody’s perfect, but this is one of those things that is both easy to do and has a correct answer, like returning shopping carts. TBH still my enemy, I’d say. His methods are still about leveraging his ill-gotten wealth to manipulate American politics in his favor. No matter which end he accomplishes, the means are still a complete breach of the democratic process, in my opinion.

Since the headline is missing context and could be interpreted as a newcomer looking to kick Pelosi out of her seat, and knowing how many users on Lemmy just reply to headlines without reading the article itself, the possibility of that happening just seemed stronger I guess.

But maybe not before the metaphorical battle is even won, much less the war. He still needs to win the actual election, and then assuming that happens, it’s going to require constant effort to try to overcome all of the resistance in the way of actually doing the job.

Not saying folks can’t be happy that he’s in the running over known sex pest Cuomo, but I just think it’s premature to celebrate when there is still so much work to be done.

Not sure if I’d be that confident (unless I missed some sarcasm). The article quotes him as staying he’d never want to challenge her for her seat, and he’s just waiting for it to open once she retires so he can run. Also refers to Pelosi as an “icon” that he wants to succeed. That’s not an indicator of someone who wants to go against the establishment.

Definitely not over. Assuming he wins the election, I would anticipate a lot of sabotage stemming from establishment politicians and public servants. If they can’t win this election, they’ll want to make his term as mayor as discordant and ineffectual as possible, to make it easier for a more conservative/establishment candidate to win the next one.

What’s crazy about this whole thing, is how many people I see insenting this can’t be WW3, solely because there have been multiple events happening that people said could lead to WW3…

This. It starts with a cascading series of small, often unrelated events that coalesce over time. They may not seem connected until viewed in retrospect. There might only be just a couple of belligerent nations pushing the boundary to see how much they can get away with at first, until eventually other nations decide to stop being bystanders and intercede in a now global conflict.

I’m not inclined to doomsay and predict that World War 3 is imminent, but I’m not going to rule out the possibility that people in the future might be talking about the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine or Israel/the US and Iran like they do about Germany annexing the Sudetenland and Japan invading China.

And with the threat of nuclear armageddon feeling closer than ever since the Cold War, I’m worried the takeaway from these events is just going to be that not having nuclear weapons is a mistake (Ukraine voluntarily surrendering theirs, Iran supposedly trying to develop some). The best way to not get invaded is to have nukes.

Makes me wonder though if Bush wouldn’t’ve used more drones if they were cheaper and readily available earlier in his presidency. At the time, they were still incredibly expensive and unreliable.

No one in government cares how many collateral deaths there are when drones are used, as long as it reduces the number of Americans returning home in boxes. Keeping the voters happy is always the priority.

I think that might be a misreading, they have no humanity in deed, not in essence. They weren’t born subhuman, they are choosing to be.
