Picard Maneuver went and came back. I appreciate their work though, they’re one of the pillars.
I worry about Stamets.
semi-toxic and stupid. I got the fucking AI cert they wanted me to, but instead of getting hooked up with clients to do that, I’m doing the fucking test automation since the start of this awful career.
keep going
There’s like 5 people that are firehoses of content that are keeping lemmy alive.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When a parent's primary/preferred language differs from their child(ren)'s primary/preferred language, who should have the most "obligation" to learn more of the other's preferred language?
9·9 days agoThis is a question built for me; my turkish has been deteriorating for 25+ years and I am trying to raise a bilingual (spanish/english) child.
When you speak to your mother, you should speak her language (I assume cantonese?) don’t be afraid to mention words you lack in cantonese to her during the conversation so you can boost your vocabulary.
If you also have a child that’s learning one language more than the other (because the primary language at school etc), communicate to them in your language, but understand what their needs are in their language, and reinforce it in your language (eg : Her : “Quiero agua” Me :“you want water? Ok, let’s go get you water. Here’s the water. Drink the water”)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's going on with Quentin Tarantino?
10·12 days agoTarantino is using his power as director to persuade women actors to show their feet
OK, what’s going on here? Isn’t being a director a part of art and expression, so expressing “here’s a pair of women’s feet, that shit turns me on” a part of art?
The actresses can see the script, they know it’s Quentin Tarantino, it’s like the cat looking in box meme. What did they expect, no taking video of your feet for the worlds biggest foot fetishist?
It’s abuse of power when he does that shit unexpectedly behind the scenes.
If you want to be mad at Tarantino for abusing an actor, try the car stunt with Uma Thurman
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uma_Thurman#Kill_Bill_car_crash
In the same 2018 New York Times interview, Thurman described how she had been in a serious car accident back in 2003 on the set of Kill Bill, because Tarantino had insisted she perform her own driving stunts.[182] Two weeks after the crash, she tried to see footage of the incident. Thurman stated that Miramax would only agree to show her the footage if she signed a contract “releasing them of any consequences of my future pain and suffering”, which she refused.[182] As a result of the crash, she sustained permanent injuries to her neck and knees.[182] Tarantino later called this incident “the biggest regret of his life”.[183] Thurman later clarified on Instagram that Tarantino had apologized to her for the incident and that she has since forgiven him,[184][185] being open to working with him again.[186]

11·21 days agoAside from ALL the shit other people have said, 3d always gets used like shit anyway. The way to make it shine is to give depth to images, and everyone wants to use it to make shit “pop out of the screen at you”.
Otherwise it’s subtle. So why bother with the extra infrastructure for no additional effect?

3·23 days agoPeople don’t seem to realise you will build up a tolerance.
Or you can just eat a 1 million scoville pepper from tesco’s because “why would they put the legit shit in fucking tescos lmao”.
I spent the next few hours wondering if I should go to the hospital because my digestive tract felt like it was being stung by bees.
After that, no spice can phase me.

1·29 days agomotherfucker what part of I said did do you not understand? Are YOU a windows update? There’s certain ones, and they changed and they eventually unblocked the fucking updates, or you know what, if it wasn’t that, the process was so fucking convoluted that I did the wrong ones.
Don’t fucking come in here and gaslight people. these fucking things happened. We tried.

6·1 month agoI didn’t want to come off pissed. I’m sorry if it was perceived like that
You did not come across that way, just that you assumed I put in Merkel when I deliberately avoided putting her in, so in terms of tone and whatnot, there’s no problems.
I guess people could interpret the decisions of Thatcher in multiple ways as well. Those people would be wrong though.
With thatcher it’s a bit more straightforward for some of the things she did and it’s wide ranging impacts. I don’t think Merkel decimated entire regions of germany the way thatcher did to britain, even though she made some people very rich.
Merkel may have made choices that had undesired impacts, but thatcher was really something else.

The women in charge we end up with :
(nb : I’m not saying women are incapable of power, just that assuming women would be great leaders is a stupid idea. There are examples of great/not horrid female leaders like Jacinda Ardern, but thatcher, this woman, Kirchner, theresa may, the lettuce woman are all terrible)
