Technology@lemmy.world•Stop Treating Phone Numbers As A Digital IDEnglish
7·1 year agoDon’t worry, here in Europe we are full of privacy laws but I still receive tents of spam calls per day. Usually from non UE countries faking the number with my country numbers.
Feel you mate. Done that 29 years ago, still suffering today.
But happy about that!
Given your comment, I think you just got what you deserved. Come on.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the worst love triangle you were involved in?
51·1 year agoMe, my gf and her mother.
Never again.
(No, not in a sexual way, not between me and the mother at least…)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which Linux tool or command is surprisingly simple, powerful, and yet underrated?"
31·1 year ago10 years? Boy you are joung :)
I have encrypted files from w 20 years ago, and unencrypted files from 30 years ago.
And digitized stuff from analogic of 40 and 50 years ago.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which Linux tool or command is surprisingly simple, powerful, and yet underrated?"
3·1 year agoThat is true for lots of things.
Moreover I use one easy “default” password for all basic stuff, and its always the same known to my spouse and written down on paper.
At least my offsite backups are protected from prying eyes. Maybe uneeded for local backups, but doesn’t hurt to have.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which Linux tool or command is surprisingly simple, powerful, and yet underrated?"
31·1 year agoWhy would you want password less backups?
I understand if the reason is ‘just because’, but seriously, why? I just write down the password in a text file for restic --password and I am done.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which default software do you replace after you install your distro?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you feel about the level of censorship in your current instance ?
2·1 year agoLemmy.world defederated with many interesting instances.
No piracy communities for example!
I couldn’t stand it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you feel about the level of censorship in your current instance ?
5·1 year agoI am the only (AFAIK) Italian instance and pretty happy. No censorship.
I don’t know how people from Lemmy.world stand it, honestly.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lab grown protein: if created, would you move to it?
2·1 year agoYeah, definitely some fat is needed…
But I can see hordes of healthy people looking for fatless meat, as they already do I the supermarkets.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What traits do you think makes someone a multi-sport athlete?
31·1 year agoNot really possible. Play sport at top pro level requires such a specialization than will not work out for any significantly different sport.
Take triathletes for example. The best ones still suck at any of the three sports individually…
A top swimmer will have a totally different body from a tip cyclist or a top runner.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lab grown protein: if created, would you move to it?
14·1 year agoYes, absolutely. No risk of virus or bacteria, or worse…
Grown to the size you want…
Of the shape and type you want…
No fat (maybe?)…
What’s not to like.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Can anyone suggest/comment on any deals for cellphone plans or thoughts on T-Mobiles cost?
3·1 year agoI pay 6€/month for unlimited calls and texts, plus 200Gb of data / month, whatever my current phone support (LTE/4G/5G).
WTF

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the greatest extent (as in the most amount of time) to which you've eaten something past its expiration date with the food still being enjoyable?
30·1 year agoNot sure it counts.
For my 30th birthday my father opened a bottle of 1878 Porto his father bought.
So it was 130 years old.
It was… Unreliable. Full taste, very sweet, much more liquorous than regular Porto. We drank it quickly, what was left was fully undrinkable only a few hours later, totally spoiled. But for half an our after being opened, it was truly the most amazing Porto I ever had.
It has been bottled before cars existed… Before electricity became widespread…
Really a lifetime experience.
Now its gone, but I keep the bottle for future storytelling.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the greatest extent (as in the most amount of time) to which you've eaten something past its expiration date with the food still being enjoyable?
11·1 year agoPasta, i think it was 10 years past expiration date. Packet was sealed and stored in a dry, cool dark cupboard. Once opened, it felt normal. After cooking, you could not feel any difference. It was Barilla.
Also, cookies. Dry cookies, like crackers. Expiration date was past, how much i don’t remember (years, anyway), but the cookies where just fine.
Same kitchen.

Go swimming… Much better overall and pair wonders with running!
… Then pickup cycling and start triathlon…
