You might actually be able to help him. There are trainings you can do to help a dog get used to sudden loud noises; hunting dogs for example get this training so they can work around gunfire. No reason it wouldn’t work for things like thunder and fireworks too.

As it so happens, it did nearly kill him. Some locals beat the shit out of him afterwards.

Unfortunately pared with this attitude is the magic thinking that ‘as long as everyone follows The Rules and keeps to Their Proper Place then nothing bad will happen ever’. They literally believe that The Hierarchy is the only thing keeping civilization from disintegrating into chaos.

It’s not that they don’t realize they’re buffoons, it’s that the buffoons are ‘following The Rules’ and so are they, so that buffoonery will never be turned on them.

Paired with this is the belief that everyone thinks exactly as they do, just some people are too stupid to realize it. So they need to exert The Rules and The Hierarchy to help those poor other people see sense.

Some people hate their own agency. They want to be told what to do by a ‘higher power’, whether that’s God, men, a cult leader… that way they can safely say nothing in life is their fault.

It’s the adult version of wrapping themselves in a blanket because they’re scared of something. That something being their own choices, or worse, random chance, leading them to fail.

But those who desire control often desire both to be subject to it and to exert it over others. So a hierarchy forms. Men tell those women what to do, and in turn they tell those lower on the ‘ladder’ (younger women, children, and in their ideal world ‘others’ like PoC) what to do. Thus everything in their life is controlled, and they feel safe. And they get to have a little power of their own, again without real responsibility, because they’re just underlings for someone ‘higher on the ladder’.

But also a lot of them believe he was sent by God to kick-start the end times and trigger the Rapture. That’s why a lot of the politicians especially are behind him, and why Biden treated him with kid gloves. You’d be amazed how many statesmen in both the Republican and Democratic Party legit believe in all that ‘end times we go to Heaven and all the disgusting plebeians go to hell’ bullshit.

I mean, yes, but it is also a well-established bit of the lore. It even shows it in the first anime when Charizard is so unimpressed by Ash that he usually refuses to fight at all, and the one time he does fight (because the other Pokémon was strong enough to interest him) he just does his own thing and doesn’t listen to anything Ash says.

Because, when you think about it, what are you really going to do against a giant fire-breathing lizard that says ‘no’ when you ask him to fight? Especially if you’re a ten-year-old kid.

Actually, a fair number of those that hold power are high on their own supply. They’re just also smart enough to use that supply to manipulate others too.

Unfortunately that just makes them shoot the women instead as punishment for being ‘whores’.

When you think about it that way it’s no surprise they worship the Orange Pedo as the Second Coming of Christ. You’ve been Living A Wicked Life and have Gone Down The Path Of Sin, and so you deserve to be smited by the divine! But the divine never answered his prayers; you and all those other icky upstart ‘sinful people’ kept having a nice job and everything that he felt should be taken from you.

And then Trump comes along and grants his prayers with deportations and shootings and everything else he thinks you deserve. Is it any wonder he’s willing to suffer himself, as long as you ‘get what’s coming to you’?

Orange Discount Hitler’s billionaire bankrollers want it so they can build their end-of-the-world bunkers there. Not sure why they don’t want their New Zealand ones anymore.

Unfortunately, since it’s the billionaires that want it, and Slimy Orange wants to do them favors so he can rub shoulders with them and feel important, he won’t just let it go, even if the GOP pressures him to. Expect him to make a serious push for it.
