When I originally saw this report on another source, the key standout for me was how many people were beaten by the AI, and the fact the winner was 5% ahead, which really is a small margin. It was being touted as “Yay we beat the AI!” without acknowledging that there were a lot of people that lost to it.
I joined Lemmy during the Reddit API change. It was pretty dead on Lemmy but communities were forming and I could have discussions with others, it felt promising. But sadly the reality now is it feels like Lemmy is becoming an echo chamber like Reddit was and conversations are stifled.
In addition to this some people immediately engage others in a negative way, where someone may be misinformed or misunderstood, and rather than offer knowledge or insight they are called fucking idiots.
It doesn’t feel like a community.

Using uBO, but have noticed a slightly longer delay of a few seconds between hitting play and the video starting, but I can deal with that over being forced to watch 30s of ads.

Back when I was managing a team, we had a new guy that I was on-boarding. I’d run the. Through all standard procedures and then get them to shadow others in the team, then swap so they are being shadowed and guided.
One day I told him to pair with someone in the team for an afternoon. At the end of the day I took him into the training room and asked him how things had gone. He had a big smirk on his face and said “I know why you had me shadow R”, and with a returning smile I said “and why was that?”, “because you wanted me to see how not to do the job.”
The new guy had hit the nail on the head, the person he was shadowing was a huge under performer and was due to go on a performance improvement plan after repeated attempts to give guidance. Anyway I didn’t confirm that is why I did it, but I’m glad that the new guy had come away thinking that, it showed that the training up to that point had been working.

I’m so envious that you have it as a job and a hobby. When I started coding I’d hoped I’d be one of those people that just whips up stuff in their free time for fun, but after finishing work I just find myself not wanting to code 😔
They are updating the app at some point, which is removing the watch together feature. I wonder what else may disappear.
This sounds great, what did you go for?

Is the free plan once a fortnight with even more marketing pamphlets thrown through the door?

No harm in messaging them just to say thank you.
If you’ve just stepped out of uni into an internship you still have a lot to go, but getting through college, uni and into an internship is an achievement in itself. They won’t be disappointed, they will probably be proud that the work they did encouraged you to stay in education for as long as you did!

Perhaps a modal the first time someone visits that shows the different UI options and directions on where to switch

I too can vouch for one of these. Great for removing a lot of fur. Anything left over I have to use a lint roller.

This is a US website no?

As adults we are dubious of the results that AI gives us. We take the answers with a handful of salt and I feel like over the years we have built up a skillset for using search engines for answers and sifting through the results. Kids haven’t got years of experience of this and so they may take what is said to be true and not question the results.
As you say, the kids should be taught to use the tool properly, and verify the answers. AI is going to be forced onto us whether we like it or not, people should be empowered to use it and not accept what it puts out as gospel.

I see new content every day, and that is after blocking a lot of instances that aren’t relevant to my taste. I don’t think this place is dead, it just needs more of those 48k to contribute.

“It’s the anxiety associated with real-time conversations, potential awkwardness, not having the answers and the pressure to respond immediately” - this hits the nail on the head for me about not wanting to be on the phone/teams call in the work place. Being pulled into a call with no context is my biggest nightmare.

Surely this is better than the crypto/NFT tech fad. At least there is some output from the generative AI that could be beneficial to the whole of humankind rather than lining a few people’s pockets?

It would be cool if it included other names for things. E.g. Kubernetes can also be known as K8s. Also not too mobile friendly when looking at more info. Besides that it is an interesting concept!
Not just the notes, but I feel like they put more effort into making sure the text doesn’t blend with what is on screen. Instances on Netflix of some shows where there will be white text with a white background, and the text has no drop shadow or black border.
