  • We use signal. You have to know people personally to get hooked into chat rooms though. You’re not going to get a link from n00bpwner420 on the server, you’ll have to get it from Jeff, the guy you’ve gamed with for fifteen years. Our group is pretty tight though (have each other’s real names, phone numbers, send Christmas cards to each other, etc), so it works for us.

  • About 2014, HOA decided to do some upgrade to our water main coming from the street. The guy came out with a weedeater and damaged my mailbox post. I reported it to the board and they said they would take care of it. Two weeks later I got a violation in the mail for damaged mailbox post. I went to the board website and they told me I had to repair it or face a fine. Right about this time the builder stepped down and handed the HOA to an attorneys office to manage. I reached out to the attorney to forward them the first message and ask them to repair my mailbox post and they said they would send someone out. About a month later I got a notice from the HOA that said this was my third warning (it was my second) and they were going to put a lein on my house if I didn’t pay the fine, fix the mailbox post, and now pay a separate fee to the attorneys office since they were managing it.

I sent the HOA and the attorneys office copies of both of their messages saying they would handle it with a picture of my damaged mailbox post. Three months later, we get the yearly Financials from the board and the attorneys office charged the HOA $1,800 to put a $500 lein on the title of my home that we had paid off after trying to go through my previous mortgage holder’s legal department to try to get the fine out of my escrow that no longer existed.

We sold the house with a damaged mailbox post last year. Our new neighborhood has no HOA.

  • Lots of Christian conservatives have turned away from Trump and have a chance of voting couch over him. Now if there’s a chance a gay man might be president it may motivate a lot of people to get up and keep the gay man from being in charge. Nothing motivates voters like fear or hate. The left would have to be 100% behind him and foaming at the mouth to go out and vote, or else it’d be a win for the Rs. That being said, a black woman carries a slightly less chance of that. The racists are already 100% behind trump and motivated to get Mr. Very Fine People on Both Sides back in the oval office.

    I’d vote Pete though… I was hoping he’d get the 2020 nomination.

  • The Daily had a great podcast on this. Overturning Chevron shouldn’t be on the table, but due to mismanagement of one agency and way over reaching because they were out of money and wanted to expand other programs is the real cause behind this. It only takes one bad apple to spoil the batch. William Bright, one of the men in the lawsuit, ended up having a regulation enforced differently on him that forced him to pay outrageous fees to take an inspector on his fishing boat that he agrees is important oversight, but never had to pay for previously. He filed a complaint and the Koch brothers jumped on this case to fund attorneys to destroy Chevron deference.

Whatever idiot in the National Marine Fisheries Service decided to start charging for this program that’s required and has never been charged to the individuals being inspected previously needs to be crucified for this. Killing Chevron deference will have so many far reaching consequences that have been providing safety regulations for the past 40 years are going to go away. It’s now going to be up to Congress, who are nowhere near experts on any of these operations or industries, to come up with specific laws that have to be enforced. These idiots don’t do their job already, and the expectation that they’re suddenly going to do it well is insane.
