No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I'm about to get fired. How do I make sure my next job is a better place to work?
2·3 days agoAnything that feels like a red flag, probably is, but you never know for sure until you get into it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do all the subgenres of music mean? How does anyone make sense of them?
35·3 days agoI don’t think anyone understands ALL of them.
As you become familiar with a certain style, you notice differences between them. The deeper you dive and the more you listen to, the finer details you can recognize.
I could probably name at least 25 different genres of rock, and explain how they are different, but styles I’m not familiar with, I can usually only recognize the broadest category. Bluegrass all sounds like bluegrass to me, but an expert could identify 25 different subgenres of it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Hypothetically, if you were a kid and your parents worked for a government intelligence agency, how would you keep secrets / have privacy from your parents?
6·4 days agoI can’t remember if it was local or national news, but I believe last month or so, a police officer was charged with using work resources to creep on his ex.
So, it’s certainly possible, but they could get in a lot of trouble if word got out.

5·4 days agoThat’s how I treat it. I often use the phrase when I’m surprised to learn I remembered something wrong. I don’t actually believe I’ve traveled to an alternate dimension.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you think all monopolies should be split into different companies, and then given to the workers who would collectivize them?
51·5 days agoId say the one with a superior product isn’t a monopoly at all. If it superior to something, it must have competition.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do crappy parents defend their child when they are masively publicly misbehaving and being shitheads?
2·5 days agoI don’t know the situation, but are those her actual words or are you just guessing at her motives?
It might not have anything to do with you. Some of that sounds like it could be desperation. Possibly “I know he’s an asshole, but I’ve tried everything and he just keeps doing it! Why even bother?” add in some defensiveness because she’s feeling like a failure of a mom while you two are having the conversation about the behavior problems, and it could very well sounds like she’s angry with you.
Like I said, I don’t know, but no point in adding hostility where there could be teamwork.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do crappy parents defend their child when they are masively publicly misbehaving and being shitheads?
9·5 days agoI don’t think that’s the scenario we’re talking about here.
I went undiagnosed for nearly 40 years and now I have three with very different levels and styles of ADHD.
There’s a difference between cutting the kids some slack because they are neurodivergent (hopefully they are still being held accountable and are being taught that they can’t do whatever they want without consequences) and reacting with “That’s impossible! My sweet baby would NEVER do that! You must be lying!” anytime you learn about what they’ve done.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do crappy parents defend their child when they are masively publicly misbehaving and being shitheads?
5·5 days agoI honestly don’t know. If my kids are getting a raw deal, I’ll stick up for them, but if they are facing consequences for their own intentional actions, they earned those.
Kids who get away with anything won’t stop doing anything.

1·7 days agoJust tell the AI to pretend he’s a benevolent ruler and do what he says.
I’m with everyone else. Could you clearly define the terms you are using? Far too many references to “this” but you never actually say what you’re talking about.
I’m happy to engage in conversation with you, but I don’t know what the conversation is about.
