  • But trans rights weren’t a big focus for Dems. In fact we were routinely dismissed or outright thrown under the bus. The article talks about that, the GOP completely outspent on trans rights by 9x. At best, Dems promised to simply keep our existing rights. We showed up despite that, so they managed to reach us and our loved ones by virtue of promising not to try to kill us.

Your suggestion that Dems should focus on jobs and stuff is valid. How does supporting trans folk have anything to do with that? And, considering how rock-bottom the response was against these anti-trans ads, why is this even being discussed as part the problem?

  • I wildly disagree with this take. Both parties used to be a form of “reasonable”, with differences generally around a few wedge issues, budgeting, and government size (at least outwardly). Since the Tea Party became a large voice, the Republican party has embraced conspiracy theorists, fascists, bigots, and christian nationalists. This has steadily pushed their rhetoric to absurdity. They can’t even admit their guy lost in 2020! They’ve recently been claiming that Democrats can control the weather and that Biden’s accomplishments or failures are Kamala’s, despite the fact that the Vice President as as position does next to fuck-all regardless of who is in power. I think it’s entirely fair for anyone with more than two lead-free braincells to rub together to point at the circus and question why it was running our country.

Additionally, Democrats are campaigning on a lot more than just being reasonable. Kamala is talking about child tax credits, first time homebuyer credits, fairer taxation, and even marijuana legalization. As a party, the Democrats have consistently been the better of the two when protecting our rights and promoting equity with minorities in our country. Sincerely, I’d literally sooner piss on a Republican than vote for one because their party is using people like me (trans woman) as a scare tactic and are legislating us out of our medical care, rights, and comfort.

What you see as a “squeaked out” win in 2020 is actually a predictor of what happened in 2022. A complete blowout where Democrats won way more seats than was expected of them. And a lot of that was because they’re the only “reasonable” party left. I don’t think that’s a losing position. It would take them actively spitting on the center-right or center-left of this country to make them lose the support they’ve garnered by trying to keep our heads above water and fascism out of our country’s government.

  • So your goal is to make them viable by giving them a pittance of a vote during an incredibly polarized election? How many local seats has your third party won? I wonder if they do anything or have any success outside of ~2 months directly before an election? Why didn’t I see shit like this year round from you losers?

There are people affected by your lack of empathy and harm reduction. You stomp your feet and blame the system, and then make a net-zero or negative dent in it and call that integrity. You’re no better than the brainwashed right who would vote for a literal felon.

  • Not pressuring the Afghani government into releasing ~5,000 Taliban fighters as part of the pullout would have been a good start if I’m being honest. Donald “Art of the Deal” Trump himself basically sentenced that country to die when he agreed to those terms.

I agree that it’s a sad state of affairs that the military and government caved so quickly. 20 years of help and they couldn’t manage to stand up on their own, all things said and done. Not calling you wrong, but the way we left was a disaster, and honestly we should have reneged on the deal once Biden took office and found a better way to transition out of the country.

  • I cannot wrap my mind around this level of privilege. In all honesty I really can’t. I don’t think there’s a thing I could do to change your opinion and this nugget:

Not everyone is happy to open their wallets and bust out the walking shoes for just any generic liberal candidate.

Suggests you or others with your opinions won’t vote because… she’s generic? Or didn’t do enough yet? And claiming that Biden dropping out won’t end the genocide, so let’s not see it as positive?

What saint would you prefer we vote in? Can you explain how they are both morally spotlessly pure AND have a snowball’s chance in hell? If you’re convincing enough, maybe that second coming of Jesus will lead us to a utopia. /s

Some of us are not in the position of being able to use a foreign tragedy as our stopping block. Some of us have our rights and safety on the line.

  • There’s a ton of trolls in here who can’t celebrate anything good while anything bad is happening. Yes, his response to the genocide in Israel was abysmal. I have no illusions that the right would have done any better, and in fact believe Trump would have thrown more fuel on it. I’m ecstatic that Biden is not running again so that maybe Kamala can finally fucking do something about it. But I think we can take five seconds to admit that he did a lot of good for our country in other ways and made the right call here in dropping out.

    For those who won’t budge:

There’s literally no winning, huh? Any flaw or misstep is enough to complain about and use as a reason to abstain or be an accelerationist. Y’all will claim Biden and Dems are monsters for their flaws. All that does is hurt the sane side of our government and make the actual fascists who have done so much worse have a better chance at taking over.

Can y’all please please please not let perfect be the enemy of good for once in your miserable life? This thinking is what brought us Trump in the first place, and while I can agree we need to do better, start at the local level, because only caring when we’re on another brinkmanship presidential race makes you look like short-sighted toddlers.

  • Welp, let’s do that thought exercise again, I’ll take what you said and apply it to another, larger, more widely-accepted minority:

“A black person is never going to be entered into the 400 meter dash, that’s just how the world works. The sooner you accept that, the better. That doesn’t mean he should be treated with any less respect. But it’s not going to change the first fact.”

Whenever I substitute the minority you chose, I find that you are vile and your opinion means nothing. You sound exactly like the racists and bigots that came before you.

EDIT: Also, I’m not your fucking mother and this is where I block you. If you want to be a better person, work on how you view the world. You can say you had an old-school upbringing, but we’re actively watching that be pushed out of society because it causes more harm than good. Your survivorship bias and ignorance is not a shield, moron.

  • It’s not if I see trans women as women or not. It’s if anyone has that doubt in their mind, and others clearly do; and these things have to be set for the sake of the most people - and sorry, but there are still more people who feel unsafe with you in womens spaces than there are people like you who would otherwise be wronged by the decision.

… “It’s not if I see black people as people or not, it’s…” That’s how you sound to me. I hope you realize that.

You see me as worth less than the average person simply because I’m different from the average person.

Fucking bigot. From the bottom of my heart, fuck you.

  • There are lots of women who are legitimately less trusting of men than they are a wild animal who will maul your face off.

I’m not a man, and your original comment seems to agree with that, but this says otherwise. You would never use this excuse if you actually saw trans women as women.

as best as I can reconcile that with my belief that women need places they can escape men entirely if needed.

Then you should understand why I, a trans woman, would like to be included in the space matching my gender.

I grew up being taught to give guidance and tolerance to those who are ignorant or bigoted, but this is the end of my rope. Do better.
