Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do some people try to humanize the wealthy and people in positions of power?
1·6 days agoMaybe because they think one day they will be rich, so obviously rich people are still people.
But they will never be poor, because poor people aren’t people.

33·6 days agoSeriously. Even domestically they aren’t allowed to just waltz into a drugden and open fire.
I mean, they still do but they are least have the claim that they fired in self defence. Not so much when you do it with drone strikes and missiles.

Technology@lemmy.world•An entire PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory, even after a discount — simple memory kit jumps to $600 due to DRAM shortage, and it's expected to get worse into 2026English
71·9 days agoWhelp guess I’m not upgrading my PC to ddr5 anytime soon 😂
I’m curious what a human brain would be like growing into being with absolutely no senses to inform itself about the world around it.
No sight to let it know where it is or what it is.
No sound to let it learn to communicate and think in orderly ways.
No touch.
No taste.
No ability to interact with its surroundings.
Yet all of the capability and potential of a regular person’s mind.
Would it be cruel to bring it into existence? Would it be able to experience negativity and pain and longing, confusion?

11·15 days agoIf I want AI for whatever reason I will go search for AI. I don’t need a chatgot like service running on my PC all the time for the handful of times I might want to use it. I will go to chatgpt if I need to use it for something.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Trump will fall because of the new Epstein emails?
1·20 days agoIt’s a good tactic because whatever lies the Whitehouse comes up with to defend against the first few leaked things might be countered by the next few leaked things. They have no idea what is available to be leaked next so have to be careful what they say.
If it all came out at once they would know exactly what they have to work with when crafting their story.
As well, coming out a little bit at a time means people can focus and pay attention to the details, discuss it.
If 20,000 emails were all of a sudden leaked hardly anyone would care because no one would be talking about the same things at the same time and the details get lost

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft confirms Windows 11 is about to change massively, gets enormous backlash - NeowinEnglish
10·21 days agoWindows has had a bug that’s driven me mad since before Windows 10 and it doesn’t seem they have any intentention to fix it.
When I try to rename files, I always click somewhere in the text of the name or highlight a specific portion, and then 90% of the time RIGHT before I start typing to add or change the name, it randomly highlights the entire thing so the whole text gets replaced instead of the one section I wanted to change.
INFURIATING and it’s been years that it’s happened, between two different versions of Windows!
There’s also another 2 or 3 other bugs that are just as infuriating but I don’t imagine will ever be fixed or changed because why the fuck would microsoft care.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When we eat the billionaires, we should spare Gabe Newell? No?
183·22 days agoIn my opinion if anyone has billions of dollars and hasn’t given a majority of it away to charity or those in need, that person is on some level at least somewhat an evil person.
Sure, much of it would be tied up in stocks and stuff that legally can’t be sold for specific purposes or timeframes, but if you have net worth in the billions and any stocks that could be sold for cash and then donated it should be. Or if you have an annual income that’s much more than you need to live an extremely comfortable life and then you just spend and invest the excess instead of donate.

How unique do passwords have to be in order to be considered safe? If they follow a pattern are they still safe or do these bots try alterations to the leaked passwords as well?
Like if your password to Reddit was reddit1234 and your password to Google was google1234, if the Reddit password leaked is your Google one still okay?
Probably not if it’s a human but bots shouldn’t be able to figure that out ya?

I don’t even understand why you would have them anywhere inside. I have a few outside to warn of movement and stuff outdoors and trigger alarms at certain times but I would never put them inside my house. Already having them outside triggers by paranoia about being watched.
