No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are animals right or left 'handed'?English
14·8 months agoI know that dogs are, but i don’t know the percentages. You can see it by observing the front paws when they start to walk; which one do they usually start with

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why covering our shoulders with a mantle or blanket is so efficient at warming us?English
9·8 months agoAfaik there is a specific spot between the shoulders with brown fat that acts as a temperature regulator. As a caveat, i read this in a (scientific) article decades ago.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's probably some kind of deal between cellphone and pants makers to keep pockets smallEnglish
13·10 months agoFunny thing is; i have never, ever heard even one woman complaining about silhouette because of pockets. But every woman complains about lack of pockets, or that they are ridiculously small

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you use your blinker in a car?English
8·11 months agoSo grateful to everyone in the comments who use them. Thank you all! Where i live most don’t use them. I don’t get why; aren’t these people annoyed when others don’t use the blinker?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do males complain about female-led stories or too many female characters when the majority are still dominated by males?English
3·1 year agoOne of the ways i select a movie or series is by watching the poster. That tells me enough about whether it will be about male heroes and (maybe) female sidekicks or mothers in the kitchen. Particularly american ones have a lot of those movies. So, these i will not even try to watch anymore.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something you can't buy ready made, but have to make at home?English
5·1 year agoTrue, but it’s an important reason for many people to start to learn how to make their own clothes. It takes effort, but one can learn how to do this. And it used to be a very common skill. With today’s junk on the market, we have a good enough reason to start learning.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something you can't buy ready made, but have to make at home?English
3·1 year agoMe neither; after all, complaints about pockets are around everywhere. But at least i’ve learned how to deepen existing pockets. Next step will be how to create pockets

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To people who choose not to swear (for non-religious reasons), what is your motivation to be that way ?English
22·1 year agoBecause swear words are, to me, an expression of anger or irritation. Swearing would therefore reinforce angry mindstates.
Yes, this was both very helpful for my mind, i’m happy and calm most of the time, and others appreciate it too and are happy to be around me.
It didn’t stop me from expressing anything. It just makes me pause to think of a better, kinder way to express myself, without making other people angry. It helps communicating with other people in a more friendly, helpful way. When i would be angry, it would be hard to listen to other people.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are vegan and gluten free items more expensive?English
17·2 years agoAt one time vegan shoes were cheap. And suddenly, everywhere the non-leather shoes disappeared and vegan shoes popped up and were advertised at ridiculous prices. They just changed the wording and adjusted the prices. It’s just a marketing tactic and one they use often for whatever stuff you can buy. It’s not so much that people are willing to pay. It’s just that vegan friendly, decently quality at decent prices are very hard to find now. At least here in the european country where i live.
They can probably understand way more words than you think
