4·14 days agoWhen was the last time an only-CPU supercomputer topped the list? I think it was 10 years ago. For over a decade the list was dominated by hybrid designs where the GPU provides most of the FLOPs.

The US pretends that the continental USA isn’t an empire but it is. Aside from all the indigenous peoples who were exterminated, and the minorities that are marginalized and only tokenized when beneficial to the empire. The European settlers themselves come from diverse backgrounds and don’t agree on much. For a few centuries a national identity was fostered because everyone benefitted from the empire to various degrees and had a common enemy, but not anymore.
A breakup of the continental USA might seem unlikely but so did the fall of Rome. It might take decades or perhaps even another century, but more are realizing that the US doesn’t serve their interests anymore.

A GPU from 2021 is better than anything I have and unlike nvidia they aren’t complicit in genocide.
I am optimistic that an unencumbered tech stack alternative to the West’s can be successful and the West won’t be able to bully the rest of the world with access to technology
