Quality and quantity of education are leading indicators of the overall trajectory of a region. Everything else follows. More educated people demand better services and more educated people are capable of providing those better services. Better educated people vote for candidates who are able to create better policies driven by data and research. All of this creates positive feedback loops as long as the quality and quantity of education is kept up. If that slips, all of the above will also eventually degrade.

Well of course, but my point was the data collection and tracking and all that other stuff was already happening in full volume prior to the regulation. The nagging to re-enable is a dark pattern of course, but prior to that the only recourse we had was to disable all cookies at the browser level.

To that point, as much as cookies have been associated with tracking and ads and such, they have/had a very important purpose in providing services on a website. It’s how the “remember me” button works for instance, or to store your preferences without making an account, among other things.

However, because a browser can’t really easily determine what a cookie is used for since it’s basically just an ID and a (usually) encrypted data blob, the only guaranteed way for it to block tracking cookies is to block all cookies. The EU regulation IMO is a “good” regulation, with the inevitable malicious compliance of corporations.

Depression isn’t necessarily something that’s “caused”, it can just happen and someone can be 100% normal for a good long time until that “squeezed lemon” feeling builds up enough that you just shut down.

In the industry you work in, your employer would be required to raise your hourly rate such that you would be paid the same as you were in the old scheme. The same thing happened when 40 hour work weeks were mandated.

What about teachers? Are students only supposed to attend school four days a week? There are not enough teachers to run multiple overlapping schedules throughout the week.

The main driver of a 4 day week is that people are at least as productive in those four days, and have more time to live their lives - leading to them being more rested and able to be more productive. There are already companies using a 32-hour workweek and are quite successful. If this is adopted on a large-scale, companies clinging to a 40-hour week simply will not be able to compete in recruiting quality workers.

As long as our economy remains based on scarcity, there will be no universal four-day work week.
