13·2 months agoCurrently on unemployment thanks to the tech industry. I wonder what my trump loving family members will think when I bring this up the next time they ask me how the job hunt is going.

Technology@lemmy.world•Thousands lose their jobs in deep cuts at tech giant OracleEnglish
38·4 months agoYeah this was fun. I got the email on my last day of vacation I took for my honeymoon.
I’ve heard of much worse those, people that had been there 30+years, a woman 6 months pregnant, and someone diagnosed with cancer, all without insurance now, not that Oracle offered great insurance to begin with. It was UHC.

22·10 months agoI always wondered why people don’t implement a multi-cloud infrastructure if they want/need extra HA. And I know Oracle offers a solution with Azure and GCP, with AWS on the horizon. Not to advertise for Oracle because they’re terrible otherwise, but I can’t imagine wanting a multi-cloud option and not consider them.

Technology@lemmy.world•Jeep pushed software update that bricked all 2024 Wrangler 4xe modelsEnglish
61·10 months agoI’m keeping a skeptical eye on them. I really like the concept obviously but remaining cautious for a number of reasons.
Obviously as the other replies mention, Jeff Bezos is one of the initial investors, but that’s also true of Rivian. The important distinction is you don’t have to get the massive tablet computer/nav/infotainment system that would be susceptible to these OTA updates.
Another reason is I was looking through available jobs that they were hiring for and a lot were AI-centric. It was unclear as to why, but obviously that just doesn’t sit right. Regardless of whether they use it for customer support, automotive design, or infotainment embedding, I can’t imagine a good reason and it was more than one type of position.

10·11 months agoThat makes sense because according to some in my “family”, the jews were catching on to Charlie Kirk and he staged his death to go into hiding since he refused to accept a $150 million bribe to talk up Israel…

Technology@lemmy.world•Stop Talking to Technology Executives Like They Have Anything to SayEnglish
53·11 months ago“Do not fall into the trap of anthropomorphizing [technology executives]. You need to think of [them] the way you think of a lawn mower. You don’t anthropomorphize your lawnmower, the lawnmower just mows the lawn, you stick your hand in there and it’ll chop it off, the end. You don’t think ‘oh, the lawnmower hates me’ - lawnmower doesn’t give a shit about you, lawnmower can’t hate you. Don’t anthropomorphize the lawnmower. Don’t fall into that trap about [technology executives].”
– Brian Cantrill (Originally about Larry Ellison specifically)
Does it not have a scroll wheel? Admittedly I skimmed the article but it appears to have A wheel of some kind.
