One suggestion to increase participation on Lemmy of those already here is to encourage people to spend some time just looking at the “all new posts” feed. I look at it a few times per day and was surprised at the number of Lemmy groups that I never knew existed. There are far to many groups here that started out good and just faded away. If it’s an interest of yours post there and try to rejuvenate the group. Message the existing moderator if you can be added as a mod for that group.

I saw my retired parents waste away in front of the TV every day. As mentioned before … the best job is the one that you don’t need. So besides enjoying my part time “get out of the house” job there are other benefits. I save money and stay healthy by only drinking on Friday and Saturday. These of course are not my work days. I also don’t go out for meals during the week. I have retired neighbors that seem to spend 5 or 6 days a week out for lunch or dinner and boozing everyday. That would never work for me

Retirement sounds great till you try it. The expression is “even your garage can’t get any cleaner”. This refers to the boredom retirement can be for some. The solution that I found was a part time job, not for the money, but doing something I enjoyed. You no longer have the pressure of a “real” job. The best job that you will ever have is the job that you really don’t need.

Yeah I have live YouTube TV and they no longer offer the MLB channel. I had got comfortable with You Tube in general because for years I have been watching the regular YouTube and I am paying for Premium, so there are no commercials. The only ads that you have to fast forward through are the ones embedded in the videos by the creators. The billing for both regular YouTube Premium and their TV product is smooth and hassle free. I have never sampled Plex or Hulu and just was wondering how they compare with the YouTube TV product. Regular Youtube has an MLB channel that I am subscribed to. They have game highlights.

I’m coming from Comcast cable. I choose YouTube TV and miss the MLB channel. Not the full slate of games. Just the MLB channel. Does Hulu have it?

“Recession” is a defined economic term. It began while biden was in office. I also agree on your point about competency but I think we can agree that most people vote with their wallet in mind. I am happy for you personally being better off now financially. You must be during something special to somehow being able to out place inflation.

Ironically I was much better off financially as were millions of others during the Trump years than since he left office. I guess that’s how I judge competency.

THIS is an excellent observation. Reddit became an addiction. I wasted hours a day there. I like it here. Less drama and I spend far less time with it.

Perfectly stated. There is a big difference between shaming someone that is significantly overweight vs. coming out and saying that it doesn’t affect your health. The few people I know that are in the obese category will outright tell you that they don’t want to be overweight. But they struggle with it just like someone sincerely wanting to stop smoking.
