I’ve seen more ads for alcohol than ever in my lifeEnglish12·2 years agoIf you don’t block ads and you type things into searches about alcohol you will indeed get a lot of alcohol ads. The thing is though, I never got them as frequently when I was still drinking, or maybe never noticed them. Also I once got served ads for beer on a page about quitting booze lol, it seems pretty intentional even though it’s most likely not that targeted.

Lifted_lowered@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•01001101 01100101 01101101 0110010141·2 years agoThis is a weird meme to me. Have you ever made something like a simple accumulator machine out of logic gates, OP? You literally just program them in binary, although usually the instructions are expressed in hexadecimal. You make your own instruction set. When we did ours in Compsci foundations I just decided that 0x06 was going to be my jump at negative instruction. I could have wired the logic so that instruction was at a different value, it’s literally possible to make your own instruction set, then your own assembly language, and then your own compiler, and your own programming language. People, mostly women at first, did this for every new computer their institution built at first.
Lifted_lowered@lemmy.worldto Apple@lemmy.world•I moved from Windows to macOS for work — and I never want to go back01·2 years agoThis article is ridiculous because it doesn’t mention why these differences exist at all. Like for example Macs don’t have window snapping because Microsoft patented that feature back in the Windows Vista days. & Batch file renaming is a Unix thing. I have always liked Exposé and hot corners and also mission control, but many windows users hate it. It’s entirely subjective and not at all rational. I guess that’s the point of an opinion piece but it really lacks the context that would have made this article informative, just a little research would have been cool.
They are like the anti Amazon in terms of shipping for religious reasons, given their observance of shabbos they don’t ship on Saturdays at all. Good to know that their warehouse staff has a weekend day off to rest.
