I’ve discussed this with the necessary nuance plenty, I just get annoyed with this tribalism that ‘Lemmy.world’ users seem so insistent on.

Usually people say brain rot nowadays when referring to either themselves (in a self-deprecating way) or another, specifically to make light of or make reference to how detached from reality (or down a rabbit hole) their actions or words have been.

First example that comes to me is, when explaining a post-ironic meme with years of subtle context to someone who is another demographic or not part of that audience, and they clearly cannot comprehend it due to lack of shared understanding. In that case, presuming the stakes are low, I would be likely to say ‘ahh that’s just brain rot, don’t worry’ to relieve the other party and indicate that I know they won’t understand.

When using it against others you are showing in few words that something is inappropriate or only important to people with brain rot.

As to some general examples;

• people who think that realistic looking people in video games are ‘woke’. These people are brain rotted by failing to ‘touch grass’ for far too long. What they advocate for is seen as obviously out of touch with reality to those who do touch grass.

• people who think they only need to participate in voting every four years, and that is the pinnacle of political action, usually have liberal brain rot (which they have absorbed through popular culture even before the internet) that pacifies them to this lesser participation

I can think of many more, but generally it’s supposed to imply that notions left to fester unchecked, or often those reinforced by an echo chamber, will present as ‘brain rot’ - a fundamental disconnection from reality in certain areas, that is the obvious result of ‘unchecked rot’ in terms of information diet rather than underlying conditions.

As if the world can stand up to the USA, you must stand up from within…

This isn’t a tenant of ‘the left’ but rather of liberalism.

Deference to law, police and morals that adhere to the legality of action are liberal brain rot, only the left in so far as the right is fascism.

Being on the left often carries pacifist sentiment but deference to legality and unwillingness to act is a liberal tendency.

Summit for Lemmy

I was using Sync since the ::: spoiler spoiler reddit ::: exodus and basically moved with it, but it’s not been updated for a while so I tried out a few others but was always turned off by their different gestures so I never switched.

However when I tried out Summit it had the right theming and gestures to be comfortable coming from Sync, along with an excellent unique screenshot tool that I’ve come to rely on.

I will try out phtn.app as an alternative on desktop since I don’t browse Lemmy much outside of the apps.

I just looked through all of that and there’s nothing as you describe from her campaign itself. Even outside of her campaign there is only lip service and commemoration for the victims of the pulse terror attack.

Unless you count saying trans people should receive medically necessary treatment as supportive? It’s a literal non-statement, words that mean very little, her support here is aesthetic at best.

They want sweeping change, they expect politicians to lie and embellish. If the politician offers something so minor when they are expected to embellish then the avg voter probably expects even less or nothing at all.

At least significant promises can get people excited. Even if they are obvious lies to those paying attention. Sad reality is vast majority of people of any generation pay almost no attention whatsoever.

I think people seeing her message might have helped. But the difference maker would have been a message people actually want to get behind. That would have spread organically.

Now whether the DNC was cooked either way following the publics perception of Bidens term is another thing. But a strong message will always prevail - even if it is a lie.

Nonsense, Kamala had 0 left leaning policy and also never mentioned trans people in her entire campaign. She tacked to the centre further than Biden on every single issue, not disputing your other anecdotes but you are seriously misled if you think the Democrats are anything except centre-right.

Republicans who want to round up minorities, prevent women from having the ability to abort fetuses that result from rape, and prevent any and all lgbtq people from existing in public.

Calling them the lesser of two evils shows you have no fucking clue.

They already believe themselves to be justified and have had their consent manufactured over a long time. As evidenced by the fact that they feel righteous in the Jan 6 attempt, and are responsible for most terrorism.

1. If someone shoots a gun at you, do you shoot back?
2. They latch on to manufactured garbage anyway, there is no amount of ammunition we can avoid giving them.
3. They sent out thousands of texts to young black Americans in more than 10 states telling them they are ‘due to the plantations at X date 9 AM sharp’, they are already doxxing and worse.
