1·2 years agoYou can get jelly that’s a lot less sugar than the cheap stuff. As for kids - I’m a firm believer in letting kids butch and moan for a few days and after that they get used to it and eat it. Just take the time investment to save yourself some hassle later on. Or tell them to make their own.

8·2 years ago- Muffins/Swiss rolls - depends on how much it is but I get it being a quick comfort food. However, check if there’s a bakery of some kind (including
Chinese / Latino bakeries) near you. It’s nearly as cheap or cheaper and much fresher. Good bread there too. - Pasta sauce: my wife actually just makes a Alfredo sauce from scratch and it seems to be just a bit more complicated than Mac and cheese sauce. Flour, milk, and cheese. Probably a lot more cost effective.
- Instead of a red tomato sauce I would buy diced tomatoes ( or those fire riasted ones) and dump them over noodles. It tastes better than the bottled red sauce.
- Mac and cheese: see above - but also, if you’re going to get it, get the box. The single serve things are worse than the generic box Mac.
-froze spinach is great. Try throwing that in whatever you’re cooking. Never goes bad. Already bite sized.
-Also, you gotta report that grocery store. Cats are friends not food.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do US teachers have to ask parents to bring basic school supplies?
1·2 years agoTaking the opportunity to tell about https://www.donorschoose.org/
Local teachers asking for help buying supplies for classrooms. With prices and item lists so you know where it’s going. Also it’s a great way to check out disparities in education. The low income school is asking for erasers and pencils and carpets for kids to sit on, and the rich school is asking to buy iPads to replace the old iPads.

If it’s to the US and going towards bombing civilians all across the world? Hell no.

3·2 years agoI’ve found that music can work too - but it really has to be the right type of music. I don’t know the right terms, but basically songs that are slow in tempo and don’t have high notes. As an example: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9LhmrVaFl_o
It takes some work, but building a list is as simple as putting songs on and remiving the songs your brain latches onto and keeping those thag just fade into the background

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Often we say infinite growth (capitalism) is not sustainable and reasonable. Can we also say infinite progressivism is also not sustainable and reasonable?
1·2 years agoI think you’re placing too much value on the label in this discussion.
E.g., you could make houses out of redwood beams back in the day. It was great - insect resistant, fire resistant. Lasts a long time. Problem is that these trees take much too long to grow, and there’s no way they’re coming back any time soon. You’re mining a nonrenewable resource and you’re going to run out (and also kill an ecosystem). That’s an unsustainable business practice.
Also, people are much more disposable oriented than you seem to be considering. Japanese houses last for like 20 years before they’re considered in need of replacement. I’ve seen a brand new house in the US, 3 years old, be razed and rebuilt because the rich owner wanted the building made his way, and not the way the former owner built it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Often we say infinite growth (capitalism) is not sustainable and reasonable. Can we also say infinite progressivism is also not sustainable and reasonable?
3·2 years agoTraditional capitalism back in the day was sweatshops and traveling snake oil salesmen.
In modern times, that’s sweatshops in India and drug ads on TV with 'tiny text of ‘This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.’
For sustainability - we clearcut forests and filled coastlines without restraint - that’s not sustainable and we had to stop because there aren’t as much left.
I don’t think the last is necessarily the source of goodness that you seem to think it is.
I’m more upset by the word ‘Resto’ in the title
