Even if impeachment made it through the House, I doubt the Senate would hold him accountable.
I’d also argue that most establishment Dems don’t actually support impeachment. They view it as divisive.

I think you greatly overestimate what that power actually is. Most Americans know Sanders and AOC better than Schumer. Even if he has the name recognition and respect that some of the other party celebrities have, it would still be shouting into a void.
Being vocal isn’t going to cause Mike Johnson to suddenly put articles of impeachment up for a vote and there are not enough Republicans in the house that would force the issue.

I used to do a 12 minute egg with an immediate ice bath. Works well. Egg peels easily. Yolk isn’t overcooked.
Recently switched to the 10-5-5 method. 10 minutes of cook, 5 minutes in the pan but removed from heat, 5 minutes in an ice bath. I’d argue the results are slightly better.
Always soak your eggs before boiling. This forces any air to escape which reduces the likelihood of your eggs cracking once in the hot water.

Really wish these death cults would get on with it and leave the rest of us the fuck out of it.

I had hoped that even the maga members of Congress still had enough spine and self respect to put the rule of law over the promise of power, influence, and the ability to shape their christo-facist state. What a naive fool.

But I’m also soft and weak.
I want to believe that they are, but they don’t have to worry about working long hours sitting on their asses. They get to make millions while paying a personal trainer and traveling the world.
I sit on my ass and eat. At this point I think my 7 year old could best me in fisticuffs.

The reporting from Maddow is that an amendment to the DHS funding bill that was passed out of committee was removed at the request of the Whitehouse. This amendment included language to prevent ICE from detaining and deporting citizens which is already illegal.
What I cannot find (with some very lose and quick research) is the actual text of the amendment. Nothing was included in the bill that would make it legal for them to detain and deport a US citizen. ICE’s authority to arrest and detain under 8 U.S.C. § 1226 and § 1231 applies only to “aliens.” Once an individual is confirmed to be a U.S. citizen, ICE loses its legal basis for custody.
IMO it seems like an empty gesture without any sort of enforcement (remember I did not find the text of the removed amendment). We are already dealing with a militia that is operating outside the rule of law.
Actually slowing this down or putting up a road block would require laws that actually address the detainment of US citizens, as the current laws only seem to address the authority of ICE in dealing with alien residents. The would also need to be an independent watchdog and actual codified consequences for detaining US citizens in these dragnet operations.

Sharp Guillotine (they/them) and their running mate Three-in-one Oil
I’m an American with some outdated experience from about 25 years ago.
I loved Germany and would love to return. I’ve even thought about migrating there, though I know this would not be simple.
I was there for about 3 weeks. My last name is very Italian, but apparently the family i was starting with hoped it was Spanish and expressed this with shock when I corrected them.
During my time there I witnessed quite a bit of racism directed at Italians and Turks. As it was explained to me, post WWII Germany encouraged migrants from Italy and Turkey to rebuild the workforce. What I witnessed was that Italians and Turks were looked down on and often held to lower jobs.
It’s been 25 years. I hope things have changed.

Through the 90s and visiting various areas of the US, those things were always there but not discussed in the open. People would say disgusting shit to people they thought they were safe saying those things to.
We’ve come to the point where people will say they aren’t racist but will still defend racist views and say racist shit but it’s not all brown people, just certain ones.
We’re probably about 6 months from having these assholes walk around with armbands.

Unfortunately we have seen many instances throughout history of ethno-religious supremacist ideology, specifically around abrahamic beliefs. Would removing such belief systems from society remove all hate and violence, of course not. But I’d argue that we would be in a better place as a society. Maybe if we weren’t trying to prove whose god was more right or whose belief was more righteous we could have a more just, loving, and peaceful society.

Allowed to return after Trump builds his resort and condos.

Not that I would see one, but I dream of the day I get a resume with a gap in 2025 or they outright say they worked for the regime. I won’t call them out, but I will happily shred that resume.

But those lives are workers and potential voters.

Great take.
Left of center to far left have become too hobbled by perfect ideology. Towards the center, they refuse to entertain more progressive ideas (fairness this has been going on far longer). The more progressive factions, refuse to compromise.

Look at the robo taxi situation they have going. The same tech that is stopping people off in the middle of the road is what is being used for FSD.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out that the whole thing is a scam and there is some sweat shop full of teenagers remotely driving cars. I feel like the random stops where they shouldn’t stop is exactly how someone who learns how to drive playing GTA would drive.

Imagine the level of assistance that could be provided to all of those people for the cost of that press conference.

On what grounds?
According to the Constitution, maps will be drawn by the states. There is no national law against gerrymandering. The voting rights act only ensures that there are opportunity districts for minorities.
The only laws these maps violate are state laws and that will be alleviated by putting the action to a vote.
I think they’ve been puppeteering him since he first took the oath in 2017. They just guide him to the decisions that they want. There may be a few original ideas, but I doubt many of them are.
