You CAN install OS X from a USB but I am not sure if it would bypass that restriction. When I restored my 2013 Mac, I had to install OS X Lion and keep updating it from there, but they may have fixed that issue

Update: used it, but didn’t connect it to the internet. I don’t even think I could access much of anything if I did lol

I’d love for it to use the body of the XR, or even the 8 Plus I think that would be really cool
