So c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com doesn’t even break that rule. It’s for discussion. Unless you take a very broad reading of not allowing the sharing of resources that could be used to pirate copyrighted material, but that’s not an issue anywhere else

The problem is this is still pretty vague. The communities that were blocked weren’t sharing copyrighted material, but resources for finding and sharing said material. You might think this is being overly literal but I’m pretty sure it’s the same loophole that allows reddit to host r/piracy without getting into legal trouble.

On the other hand, if we take this rule at face value it could be interpreted as not allowing the sharing of any kind of content without the express permission of the creators.

So it’s not an issue of people being lazy or ignorant, but overly broad/vague rules

Some of us made our accounts on lemmy.world within a week(?) of its creation when it was tiny (June 5 for me). Doesn’t stop it from belonging on mildly infuriating

If you’re going to break it down that far, why stop? Your “self” is not your central nervous system, but a portion of it - and not a very large one. It’s your consciousness. Most of what your nervous system does is not conscious.

Your self (and mine) are but a small portion of a single organ in a large network of organs and tissues and cells and bacteria. We developed because it was advantageous for our bodies - which predate our consciousness - to have pilots. We are periphery. We are a single part of an ecosystem. And definitely not the center of it

Change your sort options. Your lemmy experience will change drastically depending on whether you’re sorting by hot, active, top, etc.

At least lemmy has lots of mirrored communities so if one starts to suck you can go to a smaller one with the same topic

Yes! I struggle to motivate myself to stick with hobbies. I love photography, making art, writing - but often the motivation is just lacking. But cooking? I’m biologically motivated to cook (most days) so it’s easy to keep up with. All I have to do is save recipes and plan ahead just a little

Every year I get a little bit happier to live in a major metro area in Indiana so that I dodge the majority experience of the state.

But man it still doesn’t help me feel better about my state. I wish rural Hoosiers would wake up and realize they could have it better

What’s also fun is the few times I’ve been back to reddit to look at something. Each time I ended up seeing people in the comments with just terrible attitudes. And I thought to myself, “I’m weirdly glad reddit is still around because it gives people like you a place to congregate that I can avoid.”

You lost a remnant of someone you cared about, so it makes sense even though it was bad for you in the long run

Reminds me of my local Rally’s switching to an “automated drive thru assistant.” The jank thing doesn’t even respond when you talk to it, just reminds you every 60 seconds that it’s ready when you are. First time I went I drove off. Went a second time thinking it might have been a fluke and I’d get actual human service. Nope. Guess I’ll be finding a new burger place for my hangovers

I’m surprised no one has mentioned a specific filter or trick for just emulating this on modern screens. Surely one exists?
