Kobo was on my short-list not long ago. They seemed like the most polished non-amazon option to me. I haven’t switched for now because my old kindle 2 is still clinging to life and because of it being long out of support from amazon I just keep it disconnected from the internet and sideload whatever I want.
With that said though, now that some decent kindle jailbreaking options are available, an old second hand kindle from eBay might actually be a very good option.
No, because even cheap smart phones are often expensive and difficult to repair. My current phone is an s10 ive had since 2020 and even today it would cost me £50 to replace the screen myself.
I refuse to treat my phone as disposable so when i very rarely buy a new phone, ill buy one that i could repair myself and with internals that will last a long time.
Budget phones are usually out for me because they usually become annoyingly slow after only a few years which means i usually end up spending more for a mid range which means repairs cost more if i need them. Therefore putting a decent case on it makes sense.

Yup, electronics tech here and we have to bake our boards to remove moisture from the mid-layers before conformal coating them. We do boards which go through pretty harsh conditions so moisture trapped in the boards could cause massive issues at sub zero temperature and swelling from evaporating liquids cause issues at high temperatures.
Less of a concern for consumer tech but can be a huge concern at industry levels.
On the bright side, ill bet the smuggling business will be booming over the next few years!

I remember hearing a theory that he deliberately orders a mostly flavourless cocktail with very basic and common ingredients because it would make it easier to detect if someone had spiked his drink with something.
Standard, off the shelf ingredients means you can’t just spike the whole bottle ahead of time as each ingredient is pretty standard.
One of my school friends made some extra money during 6th form by offering to sew new, bigger pockets in various girls clothing. On average she did about 5 pairs of jeans a week at about £15 per pair. She went on to do fashion design at uni and now runs her own small business and despite branching out to do so much more stuff one of the services she kept doing was pocket replacements and extensions.

I realise that its a coping mechanism to help you deal with the state of things but you can’t change anything for the better if you can’t engage with reality.
I know shit feels hopeless now but I promise there’s things you can do now that will genuinely improve life for yourself and the people you care about. Join communities, volunteer for causes you believe in, get involved in protests, and try and form those social bonds that help break people away from conservative and maga centric thinking. If you think about it, regardless of whether what you believe is true or not, these are still things that will improve life for people who are suffering now.
Same here except I have the ultimate pro wireless v1 its been easily the best controller I’ve ever owned, the one downside for me is that I’m not a huge fan of non-removable batteries but considering how good the rest of the controller is, I’ll give it a concession on that. Additionally I personally prefer snappy tactile D pads over the mushy membrane one they went for but again, it’s something I don’t mind terribly, just personal preferance.
I actually recommended an 8bitdo wired controller to a colleague because they had bought 3 turtle beach Xbox controllers in the last year because each ended up with severe stick drift and customer support shafted them. So far as I know he’s used it non-stop for about a year and a half now with zero problems and he told me before how good a controller it is.
I asked one of my mates who’s a historian and he said yes. Viva la revolution

As with many types of license, they usually only get checked when you’re caught misbehaving.
If you’re caught not picking up your dogs poo, you’re asked “have you got a licence for that dog”. At which point, if you say no, then you get another charge or two slapped on as well. If you lie and say yes you can get yet another charge slapped on for lying to law enforcement.
Its basically another layer of incentive to follow the law and get a license or the penalties may be higher as a result.
