Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the most confusing misnomer you've seen?English
4·23 days agoThere are (oh so ironically) so many to choose from in Astronomy.
Planet for example, or Asteroid…
But seriously, it’s in their name, that they name things, which, as the name’s typically used, encompasses so much more… They name themselves as that which names stars, and they cannot even get naming themselves right…
Misnomers so normalised, many people don’t even realise.
Nommy irony of astronomy.
How are you?

Of course the “actually existing zionism”, the thing that gets called zionism, is as you describe. But we’re still being catch22’d by the perverted language trap.

Since the crooks conjured their plan, yeah.
fundamentally conservative ideology
There’s another bag of fun to etymologically explore, seeing the contrast of how each of these words are commonly used, and what lurks shallow beneath the contemporary euphemisms. Perhaps not least the whole “conserve what” thing. Worse things than the milder interpretations some associate with in the broad conflation

213·24 days agoDepends on whose definition, which version of the newspeak dictionary, one uses. I try avoid the language of the oppressor, but it’s not easy. Many do not even realise the etymology, let alone the Orwellian perversion that has them throw a baby out with the bathwater.
Zion’s 'sposa be like paradise on earth, right? Zionism, the right for your people to try to make paradise for your nation, right? Nowhere in that necessitates all the false flag attacks, the dehumanisation, the supremacy, the jingoism, the torture, the rape, the … because of course, that’s not even what that is. Paradise cannot be built with bricks of atrocity. There’s no rest on a bed of blood. There’s no paradise being built there. And so when we use the language of the oppressor, we’re truncating our vocabulary, obliterating words, concepts, in the conflations and inversions, depriving ourselves the means out, perverting our good intentions to serve the ills we fight against.
Though, best of luck to anyone trying get back upstream, this deep in the Orwellian hole.

211·24 days agoWhat happens to them when someone comes along who is pro-zion, but anti-genocide, for the prevention and punishment of genocide, against collective punishment, against false flag attacks, against population displacement & forced relocation, against pro-rape state policy, against jingoist expansionism, against ethno-supremacism, against anti-democratic coups, against dehumanisation? Brains get fried? Or carry-on-dogma without nuance as usual?

21·28 days agoIs it possible to not know who a famous person is?
Good question, evoking inspection of the terms, philosophising about the ideas, … if by definition fame means (in part) known, then if you do not know them, are they famous? And so on. Like its cousin, if a twig snaps in a forest and no one is around to hear it, did it really snap?
Like are there people in the world who don’t know who Ariana Grande or The Weekend are?
Way to crash that good question into the pits on inanity.

1·1 month agoit started as just calum’s story, then grew to a dozen more stories, then grew to 60, before they had to stop.
it kept happening to more and more people as the decade progressed.
Abused by the assessment process, cut off like an injust witch hunt, that if you lived, you didn’t need the support they cut off, and if you died, you needed the support, but don’t any more, and so it’s win-win to them in their totalitarian lust to meet quotas of culling the hated. Denied access to necessities to survive, cut off by those with a duty of care for you, intentionally. No money for heating, for food, for medicines & therapies, for anything. Perishing by starving, freezing, succumbing to ailments. Or even just from the PTSD & CPTSD & stress brought on from the mistreatment from the system there to provide for your welfare.
Read those 60 stories. Scale that up to >130,000, and see that >130,000’s not just a number.
Even to read just one… To get some idea what’s been happening.

61·1 month agoCarney…
First thing that springs to mind is his complicity in perpetrating a very British genocide, over 130,000 people culled most cruel, with not just media silence, but media egging on the hate to excuse it with lies, until Francesca Martinez broke the media silence on what was going on, in 2019, with what was dubbed the TV moment of the year, on question time… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvRz8HrEVKY
“over 130,000”'s a numbing statistic that hides the reality. Calum’s List highlights just some of the stories. http://calumslist.org/ | https://dpac.uk.net/tag/calums-list/ | https://web.archive.org/web/20260223010439/http://calumslist.org/
… It could not have happened without Carney’s complicity.
Cameron, Clegg, Osborne, Carney. Blood on their hands. People tend look only at the politicians, if at all. Well he’s a politician now too, not just a banker, at least in this phase of his in-and-out of the revolving door. He’s due scrutiny, and more.
Real monsters, there are.
