I wasn’t gonna comment but for sake of diversity I feel you deserve at least one good one. I’m actually quite close with one of my exes from 13 years ago. We dated when I was graduating highschool he broke up with me (very respectfully. He basically just told me I deserved someone who liked me as much as I like them, and he was right).

Anyway, he and I didn’t really hang out much or talk much for a while but we were in the same community and would see each other at metal shows all the time and weren’t unfriendly but would just kind of live our own lives. Once my ego healed a bit from being dumped we did hook up a couple times. Then some time passed and I met my partner of now over a decade. Anyway, me and the ex still chat, he’s met my partner and they get along very well. My ex is a genuinely kind and funny guy and I would be a reference for him any day and I consider him more my friend than my ex at this point.

I really do think time apart is important because they need to become not a constant fixture in your life before you can repair the relationship to “friend” level.

I don’t disagree at all, Information has always been out there for those who seek it out, the problem lies within capitalism, which only values education that has been paid for.

Often jobs will require a degree and experience, even trades that you say require informal training often require some sort of red seal or at least have an apprenticeship program.

You can get that education however you like, but its a bit more difficult to find an employer in a labour flooded market that is willing to let you prove your knowledge if you don’t have the recognition to back it up.

The education isn’t any less fruitful, but it is just valued less by the ruling class simply because it didn’t require money.

I would argue that primarily youre paying for the recognition of your education, as in your diploma, which is often what employers look at.

I think they fear the social consequences (hence masks), ie. What happens when people they know find out what they do? Surely not everyone they know thinks what they’re doing is good.

There’s an episode of Reply All about this where they talk about efficiency and how more diverse teams are not necessarily more efficient at the beginning but over time greatly increase efficiency because more diverse life experience results in more ideas.

I think the episode is #52: Raising the Bar

Basically, when faced with a difficult problem, a more diverse team gets better results, which makes sense because different life experiences = different knowledge bases = fewer gaps.
