  • It only is if you want it to be. Subscribe to what you like and that isn’t your will see if you only view those things.

    Use scaled as a sort occasionally to see other posts in your subscriptions. I switch back and forth.

    At the same time: the world is crazy now. There is a lot of push to take away things like platforms like this. People are trying to push opinions and people are scared.

  • Ok so here are the rules:

    (a) where the land is not being used and the owner’s main purpose is not to develop the land or use it to generate income, but to benefit from appreciation of its market value;

    (b) where an organ of state holds land that it is not using for its core functions and is not reasonably likely to require the land for its future activities in that regard, and the organ of state acquired the land for no consideration;

    © notwithstanding registration of ownership in terms of the Deeds Registries Act, 1937 (Act No. 47 of 1937), where an owner has abandoned the land by failing to exercise control over it despite being reasonably capable of doing so;

    (d) where the market value of the land is equivalent to, or less than, the present value of direct state investment or subsidy in the acquisition and beneficial capital improvement of the land.

    In other words, land can be seized without compensation if the owner is not using it, and is rather just waiting for property values to rise in order to sell at a profit.

    Yeah sounds horrible.

    How is this a genocide?

    Stop spreading the bullshit.

    Also, you might want to at least consider south African history and who was really fucked for a long time under Apartheid before spouting your crap.

  • Back in the day I just assumed everyone was lying. Or trying to get people worked up, and we called them trolls.

    Learning how to ignore the trolls, and not having trust for strangers on the internet, coupled with the ability to basically not care what random people said is a lost art.

    Somehow people forgot to give other the people this memo, including the “you don’t fucking join social networks as your self”. Anonymity makes this all work.

    Eternal September newbies just didn’t get it.

  • There is no problem. Yes, they pretty much are consistent distro to distro. Desktop to Desktop is a bit different but not by much.

    My grandparents have had a much easier time with Linux than Windows. Both environments would be confusing to look up if something goes wrong. Fortunately since linux packages are updated together, not much goes wrong. Cant say that for windows. Stuff is always popping up and asking questions and changing.

  • Why is this repeated over and over on Lemmy? It is nonsense.

    There is a button. You don’t need the terminal any more or less than any other OS. Yes people give advice with commands. They are not magic nor arcane, but it is so much easier to tell you to do a command than 20 pages of diagrams and drawings on how to use the gui to do the same thing.

  • There it is again. That term “gatekeeping”. I see it here so damn often, but nobody ever can back up the claim.

    You are saying: people are actively trying to make things difficult to use in order to keep people out? Can you give me an example? Has anyone in the fediverse rejected YOUR proposal to improve anything? Pull requests made and denied?

    Ever consider that it is not gatekeeping, but the lack of millions of dollars on advertising and venture capital that makes people think anything else is easy to use? Instagram and Facebook are MUCH harder to join and MUCH harder to curate for anything useful, and keep some sanity on your privacy, but nobody complains about them.

  • Having to do most real things besides browsing the internet via command line on 2025

    What are these “most things”? I haven’t had to use the command line on this laptop I am typing on since I got it a year ago. Files, music, shares, my own cloud storage on s3, photo editing, etc? What are “most things” to you?

    And even if it was “most things” you are not showing an example of gatekeeping. Give me an example, such as you submitting a pull request for a GUI for a current command line only “most things” that was rejected.
