Billionaire Democratic mega-donor George Soros’ wealthy nephew, Jeffrey Soros, held a fundraiser for Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, during which he explained that his family’s fellowship program paid for the candidate’s tuition years ago, according to a report.
Jeffrey Soros, a Hollywood producer, hosted El-Sayed at his home Monday night for a fundraiser, according to footage obtained by Fox News. While delivering his remarks, Soros noted that he helped El-Sayed start his career.
“I just wanted to welcome you here and express my appreciation for coming. And it’s been a privilege,” Soros said while standing next to El-Sayed during the event, per the footage.
“Speaking of privilege, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Abdul since 2012. I got to interview him as a finalist for my parents’ fellowship, the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans,” he continued.
So he got money for school from a foundation? Many people get help from wealthier institutions and individuals. Look at JD Vance, his whole career was given to him by Peter Thiel.
Yeah the JD vance Peter Thiel example is great but I’m not sure how that is helping Abdul’s case instead of making it look worse
You’re correct, the optics seem bad and your editorialized headline makes it look worse but reading the article, it sounds El-Sayed received money from a foundation for an education, Vance was handed a job and then directly put on a path to be a billionaire’s White House proxy.
Maybe there’s more going on with El-Sayed but I have yet to see that evidence and I’m not going to start crucifying anyone that receives what sounds like a scholarship.
Yes, fuck billionaires like Soros family but at the same time, George Soros has been used as an antisemitic dog whistle to GOP conspiracy theorists for decades so it’s hard to not take the story with a grain of salt.
It looks a lot sketchier with the video which doesn’t seem to be in the article https://x.com/HotSpotHotSpot/status/2105113574762766820
The video is the same single quote that’s in the article:
Speaking of privilege, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Abdul since 2012. I got to interview him as a finalist for my parents’ fellowship, the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans
That’s the only spoken line in the video so that does not change my thoughts on the matter. Are there any other videos or reported quotes from the event?
Oh my bad my adblock might be blocking the video in the article so I couldn’t see it.
Abdul speaking at a Soros event where he started his carreer is very sus. I wouldn’t say this event solely discredits everything about him but it’s a bad look.
It’s more so this event combined with Abdul touring with Kamala Harris and some other stuff that the total picture is starting to look like he’s been part of an establishment politics circle for quite a while.
