They tried. It failed catastrophically.

Unfortunately, that’s human nature for you. Most fascist takeovers happen like this.

In the east, these used to be in bars all over the place. Bars loved them, because they rarely had to be replaced. The only problem: customers had way too much fun throwing these glasses onto the floor and watching them not break… Until they eventually did, because everything breaks at some point.

OK, so why is Anthropic, an AI company itself, posting this? I mean, interesting story, but I have this feeling that the reason they’re posting this might be more interesting.

Honestly, even without this, there are so many reasons not to buy from that shitty company.

Yeah, I was referring to both posters, I guess I didn’t make it particularly obvious.

I saw the video. No, that wasn’t an explosion. No smoke, no nothing. There’s no credible evidence to support that. Let’s not spread baseless conspiracy theories, please.

I believe that only applies to the Gulf of Mexico, though.
EDIT: I was wrong, it turns out the US is supposed to see Lake America, Canada is supposed to see Lake Ontario, and the rest both.

Trump’s dick cheese must be tasting pretty good considering how many people are going for it

They’re only changing it in the US.

A number of reasons:
For a number of people, they just could not fathom buying sex. Part of that is some kind of pseudoreligious idea, part of that is also that they just don’t understand why you would want casual sex. These people often don’t understand why in the hell you would want to be a prostitute or a John, and don’t see why it shouldn’t be illegal.
Another number of people see it as “losing”. As in, you would only ever want to buy sex if you’ve failed to get it some other way. Essentially, if you want to buy sex, something is wrong with you. So they look down on those who buy sex (even though they’re sometimes secretly those who also buy sex themselves - sort of like the anti-gay republicans who get caught… well, you know).
There’s also the view that no woman in her right mind would ever want to sell sex, framing selling sex as abuse. Never mind that that’s not necessarily the case and that selling sex is not just something women do, but if you see it like that, it makes sense to outlaw it, since you’re trying to remove a source of harm.

Kind of confused. Earlier, the EFF wrote an article about AI generated works not being copyrightable in most cases. Now, they’re claiming AI generated works are copyrightable? What’s going on?

Honestly worth a watch. Most people won’t learn much they didn’t already know, but it’s a pretty satisfying takedown.

Honestly I’m not super impressed, even though I was hoping to be, because I would love to see more variety in the space. €380 is not all that much less than the just over €500 which can get you a Fairphone 5. The Fairphone 5 should have support until 2031, the GX6 Pro until 2032. Fairphone has a solid legacy of providing updates, which Gigaset doesn’t necessarily have - add to that, the GX6 Pro has a MediaTek chipset, and those are notoriously difficult to support, the Fairphone 5 has a Qualcomm which is much better in that regard. The review mentions regular lags - problems I don’t have with my FP 5 (unless I’m just not that sensitive). Honestly, the only upside I see to the GX6 (other than the price - but again the difference isn’t that big IMO, especially considering Gigaset doesn’t have the focus on sustainability and ethics) is the wireless charging, which I wish Fairphone would stop being so stubborn about.

Except it makes it that much more enticing to find the forbidden thing. I had open internet access and I definitely wasn’t looking for gore or anything like that. But at school, where the wifi was locked down, that gave me every reason to fuck around with it.

somebody else singing a song is usually fine considering the amount of covers on YouTube
Just because it’s on YouTube doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. YouTube has a whole range of agreements with different record companies so that in many cases copyrighted music will be used, but YouTube’s contentID (I think that’s what it’s called?) system IDs it and reroutes the ad revenue to the “appropriate” record company.
IANAL, but I do know that compositions can be and do get copyrighted - see the avril Lavigne vs Rubinos case, where the allegation was that Avril Lavigne’s song “Girlfriend” sounded too similar to one of the Rubino’s songs. The case was, unfortunately for us, settled behind closed doors, but it goes to show how far copyright law can go. Which, TBH, is disappointing, because on the whole, I like the idea, but well, copyright ruins a number of things.
As to the state of Peertube, I’ve not run into any problems. I’ve mostly watched videos that The Linux experiment uploads himself to Peertube, but that has been pretty flawless recently. And especially in a case like this, which could potentially generate a significant amount of traffic, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work from a technical standpoint - more peers generally means those kind of P2P systems work better.
What I do worry about with Peertube is the whole copyright situation (again, copyright ruins everything). Since you’re reuploading what you’re watching to others, if copyrighted content were to be uploaded (which can happen very quickly in a music contest), it could potentially be open season for copyright trolls.
I don’t want to be a downer, I honestly hate the way copyright ruins this stuff. But I think it’s important to keep in the back of your mind in order to avoid it turning into more headaches than fun.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Wettlaufer
For every new bit of technology, there’s someone who finds a way to do stuff that the technology would never catch because the inventors of the technology never thought of the idea in the first point. Case in point, Elizabeth Wettlaufer is one of Canada’s most prolific serial killers. They in all likelihood wouldn’t have caught her if she herself hadn’t confessed at some point. She was a nurse in a nursing home who regularly killed her patients by overdosing them on insulin. Because of the nature of her patients, those deaths never aroused enough suspicion to be investigated by police.

Because conditions are getting worse. People are being stretched thin, so they’re looking for a radical change. And the far right is promising radical improvements, even if those promises are full of shit. It also doesn’t help that many leftists have made a sport out of purity testing, pushing away many people who skew left in their political opinions but don’t follow the hive mind.
Don’t forget QS, though. If you want to count the vote percentage of separatist parties, you have to include them.
